Zaidel (in 1975) created a lens that he named the z lens. It is a contact lens that is opaque on one side and, because it is a contact, moves with the eye, preventing visual information from entering into more than one hemisphere at a time (the other eye is completely covered). The cats had to learn which symbol to press in order to get food. this method allowed them to test one hemisphere at a time in the cats.
