Why might species have dispersion patterns?

maybe for mating, food/hunting areas, may be instantaneous during a season, resources such as soil. May be random because the conditions don't vary much between one square km, to the other

What is culling?

selectively choosing a population or group based on desirable characteristics and killing those who do not possess those same desirable characteristics

dispersion

spaces where a population exists and in patterns

What is population ecology?

study of dynamics of a population and their environmental interactions

What is the difference between crude and ecological density?

Crude is the population density measured in terms of the organisms that occupy an entire habitat. Ecological is the population density in terms of the area or volume actually used by the species.

ecological density

Population density based on the amount of individuals in the USED part of the habitat

Crude density

Population density based on the individuals per space in the entire habitat

quadrat

a sampling frame that is used for estimating population size

Define population ecology.

a sub field of ecology that focuses on the dynamic of populations and how they interact with their environment. study of different variables of population, specifically their size, density, distribution and changes over time. SDDC

What are the three dispersion patterns?

clumped, random and uniform
