What is adhesion? Give an example illustrating its significance.

Clinging of one substance to another. Water is very adhesive. Eg: Adhesion of water to cell walls of plant's thin veins help counter downward pull of gravity.

What is surface tension? Give an example illustrating its significance.

Measure of how difficult it is to stretch/break surface of a liquid. Water has high surface tension.

What is cohesion? Give an example illustrating its significance.

Sticking together of molecules of same kind (often by hydrogen bonds). Water is very cohesive. Eg: Trees depend on cohesion to help transport water and nutrients from their roots to their leaves.

After a hard workout, you may notice "beads" of sweat on your face. Explain what holds the sweat in droplet form.

The cohesion of water molecules and its high surface tension hold water in droplets. The adhesino of water to your skin helps hold the bead in place.

In general, what's the reason for water having so many life-supporting properties?

Water's polarity, and its resulting hydrogen bonding between molecules.
