Ocean Tide

Daily changes in the level of ocean water.

Tidal Range

Difference in height between high and low tide.

Spring Tide

EXTREME TIDES because Moon's and Sun's gravity work together on the ocean water.

Spring Tide

Happens when the Earth, Sun and Moon are in a Line. Happens at New Moon and Full Moon. Occurs TWICE a month.

Neap Tide

Minimal tides because Moon and Sun are working against each other. NOT a big difference between high and low tides.

First Quarter Moon

NEAP Tide occurs at this phase.

Last Quarter Moon

NEAP Tide occurs at this phase.

Tidal Bulge

Oceans bulge on the side of Earth that is facing the moon because of pronounced gravitational effect, as well as on the opposite side of the Earth. big bulge = high tide no bulge = low tide

New Moon

SPRING Tide occurs at this phase.

Full Moon

SPRING Tide occurs this phase.

Gravitational Pull

The attraction between two objects due to the invisible force of gravity or the gravitational pull from the Moon that is primarily responsible for the tides that form on Earth.

Tidal Effect

The force of gravity is not uniform across an object; it is stronger on the side closer to the attracting object and weaker on the side farther from the attracting object; causes the tides.

Gravity

The force that pulls everything in the Universe towards everything else.

Tides

The steady rise and fall of the ocean water levels caused by the pull of gravity between the Earth, Moon and Sun. The moon has the biggest impact due to it's close distance.

Spring Tide

Tides with the largest daily tidal range which occur when the Sun, Earth, and Moon line up with each other.

Neap Tide

Tides with the smallest daily tidal range which occur when the Sun, Earth, and Moon form a 90 degree (right) angle. Occurs TWICE a month - at 1st quarter moon and 3rd(last) quarter moon.

Spring Tide

Very HIGH high tides and very LOW low tides. Occurs TWICE a month.

High Tide

When the tide is at its greatest elevation. Gravitational pull at its highest. Occurs TWICE per DAY.

Low Tide

When the tide level is at its lowest elevation. Gravitational pull at its lowest. Occurs TWICE per DAY.

Neap Tide

lower than normal high tides and higher than normal low tides.
