What are three things you could do if you were asked to become an advocate for health and wellness?

Leading by example, volunteering my time, and raising public awareness by creating public service announcements are three things I can do if I were asked to become an advocate for health and wellness.

(Online Content) Describe some of the common health conditions associated with air pollution.

Some common health conditions associated with air pollution are: Asthma and pneumonia "According to a study conducted by the University of Birmingham on urban population, inhalation of the fumes of heavy traffic shows a strong correlation with the deaths caused by pneumonia every year." This says that heavy traffic fumes are heavily interrelated with the number of deaths caused by pneumonia annually. "A recent study by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) has revealed that exposure to fine particulate matter in polluted air increases the risk of hospitalization due to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Of late, the number of people diagnosed with asthma grew by 4.3 million from 2001 to 2009." This evidence shows that the increase of particulate matter in the air, the risk of being hospitalized increased and the number of people diagnosed with asthma grew drastically between 2001 and 2009.

(Journal Activity) Imagine that you are the advocate for a specific health topic and that you want to create a public service announcement to raise awareness in your community. What health topic would you choose and what medium would you use to convey your message?

The health topic I would chose would probably be tobacco use. I would most likely have one of those pointers and a big poster with everything needed written down on it.

Compare the most likely cause of death for an individual born in 1900 and an individual born in 2006.

The most likely cause of death in 1900 would be pneumonia/influenza, while the leading cause of death in 2006 was heart disease. In 1900, the leading causes of death are communicable diseases, or diseases that are spread from person to person from direct or indirect contact. In, 2006, the leading causes of death are lifestyle diseases, or diseases caused by a combination of unhealthy behaviors, heredity, and environment.

Define and describe the different types of risk factors.

The two different types of risk factors are uncontrollable and controllable. Controllable risk factor are health risk factors over which individuals have some measure of control, while uncontrollable risk factors are health risk factors which individuals have no control over.
