a tribe that moved around the Great Plains, during Civil War moved deeper into TX, set up trade with the comancheros in NM, mostly stole cattle and sometimes people to trade, 1871-73 they fought against the U.S and lost, eventually surrendered to the farming life with help of their leader Quanah Parker

created many reservations for tribes in order for them to practice their traditional ways

Nez Perce

deeply divided tribe in CA, half wanted to be in reservation and half did not, the half that did not were threatened and tried to escape but failed

Transcontinental Railroad

first rail to allow train travel across the U.S

Navajos and Apaches

from NM, CO, KS, very war-like, during Civil War a part of the Union Army came there and realized the Confederates were defeated so instead attacked them, the two tribes did not get along and were finally separated after the war

Ghost Dance

initiated by Wovoka, religious awakening for Sioux where they thought if they went back to traditional ways the whites would leave

Modocs

leader is Kintpuush, in CA, leader took tribe and returned to homeland, was attacked and lost

Great Sioux War of 1876-77

started when the U.S told the Lakota to move and they resisted, battle of Little Big Horn and the U.S lost everyone, the next battle the Lakota was defeated, the result separated the Lakota into six factions
