Eastern Ghats

A discontinuous range of mountains along India's eastern coast.

Bengal

A geographical and ethno-linguistic region in the eastern part of South Asia, at the apex of the Bay of Bengal and dominated by the fertile Ganges delta.

Kashmir

A geographical region situated in northern part of South Asia. Throughout the course of the history the geographical extent of kept changing, however by the mid-19th century, the term Kashmir geographically denoted only the valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal mountain range. Today, it denotes a larger area that includes the Indian-administered territories of Jammu and Kashmir

Borneo

A giant, rugged island in Southeast Asia's Malay Archipelago, is shared by the Malaysian states Sabah and Sarawak, Indonesian Kalimantan and the tiny nation of Brunei. It's known for its beaches and ancient, biodiverse rainforest, home to wildlife including orangutans and clouded leopards. In Sabah is 4,095m-tall Mt. Kinabalu, the island's highest peak, and, offshore, the famed dive site Sipadan Island.

Karakoram

A large mountain range spanning the borders between Pakistan, India and China, located in the regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh, and southern Xinjiang.

Deccan Plateau

A large plateau in India, making up most of the southern part of the country. It rises to 100 metres (330 ft) in the north, and to more than 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) in the south, forming a raised triangle within the downward-pointing triangle of the Indian subcontinent's coastline

Himalayas

A mountain range in the Indian subcontinent, which separates the Indo-Gangetic Plain from the Tibetan Plateau.

Arakan Mountains

A mountain range in western Burma, between the coast of Rakhine State and the Central Burma Basin, in which flows the Irrawaddy River.

Western Ghats

A mountain range that runs parallel to the western coast of the Indian peninsula, located entirely in India.

Khorat Plateau

A plateau in the northeastern Isan region of Thailand. The plateau forms a natural historical barrier controlling access to and from the area.

Cochin China

A region encompassing the southern third of current Vietnam whose principal city is Saigon or Prey Nokor in Khmer. It was a French colony from 1862 to 1954.

Punjab

A state bordering Pakistan, is the heart of India's Sikh community. Its city of Amritsar, founded in 1577 by Sikh guru Ram Das, is the site of Harmandir Sahib, the holiest gurdwara (Sikh temple). Pilgrims visit its gilded Hari Mandir sanctuary and bathe in the surrounding Pool of Nectar. Also in Amritsar is Durgiana Temple, a Hindu shrine with engraved silver doors.

A state in northeastern India known for its wildlife, archeological sites and tea plantations.

Brunei

A tiny nation on the island of Borneo, in 2 distinct sections surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea.

Shan Plateau
