Aspirin

Aspirin (indications)

- Mild to moderate pain - Fever - AMI or suspected AMI - Stroke

Aspirin (mech of action)

- anti-inflammatory and antipyretic through inhibition of thromboxane A2 - anti-platelet aggregator and reduce likelihood of thrombus formation

Aspirin (other/notes)

- commonly causes gastric upset - avoid enteric-coated aspirin in chest pain (slower acting) - PT chew tablets

Aspirin (contraindications)

- hypersensitivity - bronchospasm - angioedema - patients receiving monamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Aspirin (adverse effects)

- nausea, - vomiting - GI bleeding - allergic reactions

325 mg (one tablet) or 4x81 mg tablets (324 mg)
