Vertex

A ______ is the endpoint of each line or arc segment of a polyline.

After defining a block, you can insert it into a drawing as many times as you wish. It can also be inserted into other drawings or shared with others. Regardless of the number of times the block has been inserted into the drawing, it will not significantly change the size of the drawings database.

A block is a collection of objects that acts as one object.

Therefore, it is important to be able to verify if a polyline is opened or closed.

A closed polyline creates a polygon. A closed polyline or a polygon has many different uses in an AutoCAD drawing but will appear exactly the same as an open polyline.

An exploded dimension is simply a collection of AutoCAD objects indicating a measurement on the object and has no relation to the object it is dimensioning.

Associative and non-associative dimensions are dimensions that are intelligent, similar to an associative hatch pattern and are tied to the object they are dimensioning.

The drawing can then be plotted and used for construction or reference. Up to this point in the modules, you have only been adding shape description to the object you are drawing by describing the size and location.

Dimensioning is the process of adding size descriptions to the object you have drawn.

Model space is a limitless three dimensional space where the real object(s) of your model are drawn.

For example, if you are drawing a house, everything that is part of the house such as the walls, windows, doors, etc. are drawn in model space.

DesignCenter organizes access to drawings, blocks, hatches and other drawing content.

From DesignCenter, you can insert, copy or drag and drop objects from an open drawing, filed drawings, a network or even the internet to your current drawing.

Block object

If a block has another block as one of its objects, what is the internal block called?

Objects only have to be drawn once in AutoCAD, and then they can be used over and over. Their size and orientation are not important, as they can easily be changed as you will see in future modules.

If you have to draw an object that is similar to one you or someone else has drawn before, simply make a copy of it and make your changes.

The array will be in the counterclockwise direction.

In a polar array, what does a positive value mean in the Angle to Fill?

That the rows in the array are added to the right.

In a rectangular array, what does a row offset with a positive value mean?

Paper space is a virtual two-dimensional space where all objects related to the piece of paper you are plotting your drawing on, are drawn.

Objects drawn in paper space are things like the titleblock, borders, dimensions, notes, labels and bills of material. Paper space is also drawn at full size but the units are usually inches or millimeters.

The current layer

On what layer are the Definition Points inserted on?

On the same layer as the objects that were selected in the COPY, ARRAY or MIRROR commands.

On what layer will the object(s) that are copied, arrayed, or mirrored, using the COPY, ARRAY and MIRROR commands, reside on?

This command is used to remove unwanted block definitions, dimension styles, layers, linetypes, mline styles, plot styles, shapes and text styles.

The DIMLINEAR command is used to insert a linear dimension. A linear dimension is a dimension that is either horizontal or vertical.

REN (Rename)

The RENAME command is used to rename block definitions, dimension styles, layers, linetypes, text styles, UCS's, viewports and views.

Definition points are points that are automatically inserted on the drawing by dimensioning commands.

They are only inserted for associative and non-associative dimensions. One definition point is inserted for each end of an extension line or on opposite sides of a circle or arc.

The Scale for Dimension Features area on the Fit tab allows you to select the scale factor you want applied to the dimensioning features when a dimension is inserted.

This can be a very useful item and will save you time.

This command is used to open the DesignCenter dialogue box.

CTRL+V (PasteClip)

This command is used to paste an object(s) from the clipboard onto the drawing.

FILL

This command is used to toggle the solid fill display inside polylines, solid and hatches.

When an object is copied, the copies retain all of the properties of the original object even the layer it resides on.

This happens regardless of the current layer when the COPY command is executed.

When an object is arrayed, all objects created in the array will retain the properties of the original object, even the layer the original object resides on.

This happens regardless of the current layer when the ARRAY command is executed.

The Measurement Scale box allows you to set the scale you want applied to the object measurements when inserting dimensions.

This is a very important setting and in most cases should be left at 1.

DIMASSOC

This system variable is used to enable either associative, non-associative or exploded dimensions being inserted by dimensioning commands.

DIMASO

This system variable is used to enable either non-associative or exploded dimensions being inserted dimensioning commands.

Polylines can be drawn from scratch, using the PLINE command, or they can be created from existing objects using the PEDIT or the BOUNDARY command.

To edit a polyline, use the PEDIT command or the Properties dialogue box.

In AutoCAD, a regular polygon is a closed polyline having between 3 and 1,024 equal-length sides and is drawn using the POLYGON command.

Using the POLYGON command to create polygons is a fast and simple way to draw squares, equilateral triangles, hexagons, octagons, and any other regular polygon.

[ ]

When AutoCAD finds the dimension or measures the object in a dimensioning command, it does not display the actual number. What characters does it display to represent the default measurement?

The fastest way to dimension an object is to dimension it very quickly inserting all the dimensions required.

When all the dimensions are in, change them using the Properties window and the STRETCH command. Don't try to fix the dimensions as you insert them.

Definition Points

When associative and non-associative dimensions are inserted, they insert points at the dimensions location. What are these points called?

The COPYBASE command is very important to the AutoCAD operators who work in disciplines such as mapping.

When copying objects from one drawing to another and the objects must be in the exact location as the original drawing, use the COPYBASE command with 0,0 as the base point. Use the same coordinates when pasting it into the new drawing.

It restricts the graphic cursor to the horizontal and vertical axis.

C) Selects all the objects that totally inside and the ones that cross a square or rectangular window defined by two diagonal corners. D) Selects all the objects that are totally inside a window defined by a polygon. E) Selects all the objects are totally outside a window defined by a polygon.

CTRL+C

Which one of the following will copy the selected object(s) onto the clipboard.

A dimensioning style is similar to a text style. A dimensioning style controls the way your dimensions appear in your drawing.

You can create new styles or edit existing dimensioning styles with the DIMSTYLE command. AutoCAD uses the current dimensioning style properties when inserting dimensions with any dimensioning command.
