Applied research - purpose is associated with solution of specific problem Basic research - purpose is related to a creation of new knowledge

Differences in context of both Research

Applied research - The objective are set by clients or sponsors as a solution to specific problems Basic research - Usually self-initiated in order to expand the levels of knowledge in certain areas

Differences in methods in both Research

Applied research - more concerned with external validity Basic research - specified with internal validity

Aim of Applied Research

1. Address real-world issues 2. Investigate and improve

Basic Research Does Not

1. It is not intend to solve problems 2. Does not have potential, direct economic value 3. No immediate practical use

Study and research that is meant to increase scientific knowledge

Aim of Basic Research

To gain more knowledge or understanding of the subject under study, without specific applications in mind.
