What is a response prompt? Identify and describe four types of response prompts.

A response prompt is the behavior of another person that evokes the desired response in the presence of the Sd. Four types of response prompts are: 1. Verbal Prompt-You say something 2. Gestural Prompts: Any physical movement or gesture of another person that leads to the correct behavior in the presence of the Sd 3. Modeling Prompts: Any demonstration of the correct behavior by another persons that makes it more likely that the correct behavior will occur at the right time is a modeling prompt 4. Physical Prompts: Another person physically helps a person engage int he the correct behavior at the right time. This is also the most intrusive out of the four types of responses.

What is a stimulus prompt? Describe two types of stimulus prompts.

A stimulus prompt involves some change in a stimulus, or the addition or removal of a stimulus to make a correct response more likely. Two types of stimulus prompts are within-stimulus prompts and extra stimulus prompts.

Flashing lights on a billboard that make it more likely you will read the words on the billboard are a kind of prompt. What prompt is used in this example?

Extrastimulus prompt. You add a stimulus to help the person make a correct decision.

What is the least to most prompting? What is the other term for it?

Fading across prompts is least to most prompting (also called system of least prompts). Example: The job coach provides the least intrusive prompt first (verbal) and uses more intrusive prompts only as necessary t get the correct behavior to occur.

Describe prompt delay procedure. Provide an example of the constant prompt delay procedure and an example of the progressive prompt delay procedure.

In this procedure you present the Sd, then wait a number of seconds, and then, if the correct response is not made, you provide the prompt. (Pg 192 for example).

What is most to least prompting?

Most to least prompting is when the most intrusive prompt is used first and is then faded to less intrusive prompts.

What is transfer of stimulus control? Why is it important?

Pg 190

What is a prompt? When is a prompt used in behavior modification?

Prompts are stimuli given before or during the performance of a behavior. The function of the prompt is to produce an instance of the correct behavior so that it can be reinforced as well. The use of prompts makes teaching more effective,

Describe fading of response prompts.

With prompt fading, a response prompt is removed gradually across learning trials until the prompt is no longer provided.

Provide examples of the two types of stimulus prompts.

Within stimulus prompts and extrastimulus prompts.

Suppose you are conducting a learning trial with a student with autism. How would you use a verbal and physical response prompt to get the student to pay attention to you when you said the student's name?

You would prompt the correct response (physically prompt the child), and immediately provide a reinforcer. This is called a learning trial.
