Kumquats (金桔 jīnjú)
These are bite-sized citrus fruits. You eat them whole, skin and all, and spit out the seeds.
Dragonfruit (火龙果 huǒlóngguǒ)
This fruit has a beautiful pink rind and white flesh with the texture of a kiwi.
Starfruit (杨桃 yángtáo)
This fruit has a sweet & sour taste. It slices into perfect stars, which make it a great decoration for fruit salad.
Dragon's Eyes (龙眼 lóngyǎn)
This fruit has a thin, bark-like skin and looks like an eyeball when peeled. The fruit has the texture of a peeled grape.
Hawthorn Berries (山楂 shānzhá)
This fruit has have a yummy slightly sour taste. They are often made into a candied snack called tang hulu, which are like mini candy apples. There are lots of this flavor fruit candies in China too.
Lychee (荔枝 lìzhī)
This fruit has its own unique flavor. They have a texture like peeled grapes. They have a thin, leathery skin and come in bunches, like grapes too.
Durian (榴莲 liúlián)
This fruit is famous for its stinky smell. Many hotels in South China have signs warning you not to bring it in. It tastes a lot better than it smells.
Ginseng Fruit (人参果 rénshēnguǒ)
This fruit is full of amino acids, vitamins and minerals. According to the Monkey King legend, there is a tree in China that only grows this fruit in the shape of babies every 3,000 years. The legend says that if you eat the fruit, you can live 47,000 years. Because of that, some sellers in China use a mold to shape their fruit into the shape of a baby!
Pomelo (柚子 yóuzǐ)
This fruit looks like a gigantic yellowish greenish grapefruit. It has thick spongy skin that you peel or cut off. It tastes like an orange, but with a mellower flavor.
Mangosteen (山竹 shānzhú)
This is a tropical fruit. It has a thick purple skin and a soft, creamy white fruit that is in segments like an orange.
