Prefabricated building units.

A building unit constructed or built in a manufacturing facility and delivered to the job site.

Modular units.

A house that is 95% complete when it is delivered to the job site.

Heavy Timber Construction

A type of construction used to erect Buildings, Bridges, Railroad trestles and waterfront piers & docks. Example: Domes.

Closed panel system.

A type of panel system in which the electrical and plumbing systems, insulation, and interior walls are installed at the manufacturing facility.

Open Panel System.

A type of panel system in which the outside surface of the exterior wall panel is covered with sheathing or insulation board, but the inside surface of the wall is left open or exposed.

Fold out panel systems.

A type of panel system that features panelized floors walls and roof sections all hinged together. They full-flat during shipping and are quickly unfolded and erected on the job site.

Post and beam Construction

A wood framing method where construction relies on posts & beams for its basic structure.

Panel systems.

Basic units such as walls are constructed on an automatic assembly line framing station.

Brick or stone veneer Construction

Brick/stone as outside covering (veneer) over a conventionally framed stud wall and gives the appearance of having masonry exterior walls but the primary support is provided by wood and metal structure.

Mobile homes.

Built on a steel frame while the walls, floor and roof are wood-framed. Electrical and plumbing systems are all in place and units come as single or double wides.

Masonry construction.

Exterior walls are constructed of bricks, hollow concrete masonry (like block), stone, or a combination of masonry products while interior walls/floors are usually wood & metal products.

Heavy construction

Heavy construction uses reinforced concrete and structural steel.

Balloon framing

In balloon framing the studs extend from the sill plate to the roof.

Residential & Light Construction

Light construction includes houses, Condos, multi-family dwellings (apartment buildings) & small-medium-sized commercial buildings like stores, restaurants and warehouses.

Steel-framed concrete structures

Most high-rise buildings in some smaller buildings are erected with steel framework.

Tilt-up and lift-slab Construction.

Often small-medium sized concrete buildings are made with Precast units that are tied together without steel frame work using tilt-up and lift-slab construction.

Monolithic concrete.

Refers to the traditional method of Concrete Construction in which each major element of the building such as a wall is cast as a single continuous piece.

Precast concrete.

Units, made with reinforced concrete, are manufactured at a Precast plant and then transported to the job site where they are erected into position.

Reinforced concrete

Uses concrete that contains steel reinforcement (rebar) or fiberglass reinforcing rods to strengthen it.

Alteration or remodeling.

aA change or addition is made to a previously built structure.

Platform framing

platform framing consists of studs, plates, joists, bracing and other structural members.

Green Building.

rRefers to building design and construction methods that efficiently use materials, energy, water, and other natural resources.
