Smart Security and "Big Data":

- If millions of homes have cameras in most rooms, and if all this meta-data (data w/o names/faces) are analyzed, IoTs could start predicting our behaviors and needs

Décor-friendly devices:

- IoT devices that look better will sell better

Can IoT devices spy on you?

- Microsoft originally designed Xbox One Kinect sensors to be always on - Plans changed and newer Xbox Ones don't have Kinect

Capacity to store information on a central HUB

- i.e., your cellphone app

4 key elements of Internet of Things (IoT):

1. Mass creation and diffusion of smart objects 2.Hyper-fast machine-to-machine communication 3.Widespread RF (Radio Frequency) technologies 4.Capacity to store information on a central HUB

5G Connectivity

5G will eventually be 10X faster than 4G - Future smart homes may have no Internet buffering (i.e., virtually instant results)

Connected Home:

A home that uses multiple IoT devices / apps

Widespread RF (Radio Frequency) technologies

As older frequencies are retired (e.g., analog TV, telephone pagers, etc.) they can be converted for IoT use

Internet of Things

Computing devices embedded in everyday objects (e.g., thermostat, refrigerator, speaker, etc), enabling them to send and receive data.

Mass creation and diffusion of smart objects:

Every IoT device needs an IP (Internet Protocol) address.

Smart Home:

One device (or app) serves as the HUB for all IoT home devices

Hyper-fast machine-to-machine communication

Your home Wi-Fi network allows communication between your cellphone app and connected IoT device

Current standards (IPv6) =

billions upon billions of devices
