Chapter 11 The Anatomy and Function of the Diencephalon
in the diencephalon the optic nerves cross each other at the
Optic tract and the optic chiasma
hypothalamus
center for mind-over- body phenomena (may be involved for the mind not excepting a diagnosis and recovered) Mind controlling the body phenomenon
hypothalamus
controls a normal body temp, informs us when and how much water we need, waking state and sleep patterns, regulates our food intake
hypothalamus
controls and integrates the autonomic nervous system, receives sensory impulses from the internal organs, sends signals and controls the pituitary gland
hypothalamus
inferior part of the diencephalon; small in size and controls many bodily functions related to homeostasis
epithalamus
part of the diencephalon; small area superior and posterior the the thalamus; contains the pineal gland
thalamus
the superior part of the diencephalon; plays an important role as an interpretation center for conscious recognition of pain, temperature, crude pressure or touch
the two main areas of the diencephalon
the thalamus and the hypothalamus
diencephalon
superior to the midbrain and between the two cerebral hemispheres; surrounds the third ventricle
