What are the advantages of accessing a network device using console access?

Console access is advantageous because the device is accessible even if no networking services have been configured, such as when performing an initial configuration of the device. When performing an initial configuration, a computer running terminal emulation software is connected to the console port of the device using a special cable. Configuration commands for setting up the switch or the router can be entered on the connected computer.

What is user EXEC mode?

Limited in capabilities but useful for basic operations. Limits the number of basic operating commands but does not allow the execution of any commands that would change the configuration of the network. The user EXEC mode is identified by the CLI prompt that ends with the > symbol. Often referred to as a view only role.

Secure Shell access is the recommended access for remote management because it provides a secure connection. SSH requires encrypted password authentication and transport of session data. Most versions of Cisco IOS include an SSH server and an SSH client that can be used to establish SSH sessions with other devices.

What are switch virtual interfaces?

Switch virtual interfaces (SVIs) are virtual interfaces because there is no physical hardware on the device associated with it. An SVI is created in software. The virtual interface provides a means to remotely manage a switch over a network using IPv4. Each switch comes with one SVI appearing in the default configuration. The default SVI interface is VLAN1.

What are two advantages of using the Command Line Interface?

The Command Line Interface is less resource intensive than the GUI and more stable.

What is Privileged EXEC mode?

The Privileged EXEC mode allows access to all commands and features. The user can user any monitoring commands and execute configuration and management commands. It is identified by a # symbol.
