Static Webpage:

visitors see the same content each time the view the webpage

Graphic:

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language):

Troll:

someone who posts negative, inflammatory comments on a blog post or article with the intent of inciting others

Host name:

text between protocol and domain name (www.); identifies type of internet sever or the name of the webserver

Dynamic Webpage:

the content of the webpage is regenerated each time a user displays it; may contain customized content such as the date and time of day, weather, ticket availability for flights

Domain Name System (DNS):

the method that the Internet uses to store domain names and their corresponding IP addresses

History of Internet

The Pentagon's Advanced Research Projects Agency wanted to build a network (ARPANET) that would allow scientists at different locations to share information and work together on military and scientific projects; wanted something that would function if part of their network was disabled or destroyed by a disaster

BMP (bitmap):

Uses: desktop backgrounds; scanned images

a measure of the capability of a network to send and receive data (speed); how fast it can send a certain amount of data (A connection with a high bandwidth sends more data than a low bandwidth over a certain amount of time)

Domain name:

a visual representation of data or information, designed to communicate quickly, simplify complex concepts, or present patterns or trends (maps, signs, charts, diagrams)

Portal:

a website that offers a variety of internet services from a single location (Ex: MSN)

Responsive Web Design (RWD):

adapts the layout of the website to fit the screen on which it is being displayed

Mobile Service Provider:

aka wireless data provider, ex: Verizon Wireless, a ISP that offers wireless internet accesses to computers and mobile devices that enable wireless connectivity; offers mobile broadband

Email Marketing Services:

allows organizations to create campaigns, and then send them by email to everyone whose name is on a list for distribution

Shopping Cart:

allows the customer to collect items of purchase

A content aggregation website or app, sometimes called a curation website:

allows users to collect and compile content from a variety of websites about a particular topic or theme

Microblog:

allows users to publish short messages (<10,000 characters) for others to read

Internet Service Provider (ISP)

an internet access provider; a business that provides individuals and organizations access to the Internet for free or for a fee

Multimedia: any application that combines text with media

any computer or device that provides services and connections to other computers or devices on a network (Ex: Webserver); use high speed communications to transfer data and messages over a network

Animation:

appearance of motion by displaying a series of still images in sequence

consists of a worldwide collection of electronic documents

contains names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and other details about people with whom you communicate

default browser for Mac0S; built in sharing with online social neworks; fast performance; parental controls

Firefox:

developed by Mozilla corporation for windows, macOS, and Linux; known for extensive array of plug ins; must be downloaded and installed; has enhanced privacy and security features; spell checker; tabbed browsing; and a password manager

Wireless Broadband Internet Services:

wireless modem, small device that connects to a computer and enables additional functions when attached

Hot Spot:

wireless network that provides Internet connections to mobile computers and devices; cybercriminals lurk in public Wi-Fi hot spots
