-GI hemorrhage & bowel obstruction (for untreated Meckel's diverticulum)

Postoperative

-assess respiratory status & maintain airway -oxygen PRN -vital signs -analgesics PRN -assess surgical site for bleeding/abnormalities -assess bowel sounds/bowel functions -administer IV fluids -maintain NPO status -maintain NG to low continuous suction

Subjective/Objective Data

-can be asymptomatic -abdominal pain -bloody, mucus stools

Preoperative

-provide blood transfusions to correct hypovolemia -administer fluid and electrolyte replacement as prescribed -provide oxygen as prescribed -administer IV antibiotics -MAINTAIN BEDREST -closely monitor blood loss in stools
