Invented Texture
is a version of visual texture that makes no reference to reality.
Texture
describes the surface character of materials as experience primarily through the sense of touch.
Pattern
is design based on the repetition or grouping of elements such as line, shape, color, or texture. - A pattern on a flat surface such as a fabric or paper may be enriched by contrasts in visual texture.
Visual Texture
is the illation of actual texture.
Actual Texture
results from surface variations in the materials used to create the work of art.
Subversive Texture
subverts or undermines viewers' expectations of familiar surfaces.
Impasto
the most common technique for creating actual texture in painting, layers of thickly applied paint.
