Christian Beliefs - Chapter 7 mod What is Man?
Man's uniqueness
Part of man's uniqueness comes from the fact that he is the only part of God's creation made "in the image of God" (Gen. 1:27).
How can we glorify God?
We glorify God by enjoying him, loving him, trusting him, and by obeying his will, commands, and law.
Man's responsibility to others
As God's image bearers-as representatives of the king of the universe-we have the awesome responsibility to help restore his people to the way they were meant to be.
Image of God
As creatures made in God's image, we were made to be like him.
Man's responsibility to creation
As creatures made in God's image, were were also made to be his representatives on the earth. Man is called to take care of his land.
Likeness
At the end of time, all of God's children will become like his son, Jesus Christ. Because of Jesus we will eventually be changed to reflect God's image as we were intended to do.
Distorted image
Because of sin, God's image in us is partly distorted.
How and why did God create us?
God created us male and female in his own image to know him, love him, live with him, and glorify him. And it is right that we who were created by God should live to his glory.
Restored image
The good news is that God's image is being restored. God redeems his children through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus so that they can be "conformed to the image of his Son" (Rom. 8:29).
Man (Humans)
The pinnacle of God's creation.
Goal of man
The ultimate goal of man in life should be to live to the glory of God.
