Command of Evidence-Chapter 6
Textual evidence example
"I think the author supports clearer labeling on food because..." what follows the word "because" is the evidence.
Essay
Analyze the argument and explain how the author builds it to persuade, what techniques are used?
Interpreting data
May be graphs or charts from something like a science experiment. On the Reading test: interpret, make connections between it and the passage Evidence and claims help persuade readers. On the Writing and Language test: correct the authors error in reading the graph
Determining the best evidence
Often times questions will ask you to infer something from the text, your conclusion should come from textual evidence. So, in the next question when it asks to find evidence to support that claim, you have some. You need to pick the answer that BEST supports the claim.
Examples of questions with data
Reading: Which piece of evidence does the author rely most heavily on? Does this evidence support the claim? Writing: Which information should the author use/take out to best support his claim?
What is command of evidence?
The evidence the author of a passage uses to get his or her point across. This support can also be in the forms of graphs, tables and charts that you will have to make sense of on the SAT. Evidence can sometimes be improved to further support the author's argument. The evidence clarifies the focus.
