Content: 5th requirment

- Shall be relevant for nursing practice and provide for professional growth of licensee and consistent with program objectives.

Instructors: 6th requirment

- expertise in content area must be documented

Length: 1st Requirment

- must be at least 60 consecutive minutes (one contact hr.)

- must be evidence of program planning based on needs of potential audience.

Records: 9th requirment

- must be kept by provider for minimum of 4 years. Participants must receive certificate of attendance which specifies the provider, title of offering, date and location of program, number of contact hours, provider number, grades and organization granting approval if appropriate.

Objectives: 2nd Requirment

- must be written and the basis for content, learning experiences, teaching methods, and evaluation; specific, measurable, attainable, and described expected outcomes.

Evaluation: 8th requirment

- participants must complete evaluation

Teaching Methods: 7th requirment

- shall be appropriate to achieve objectives. Must use principles of adult education. Time allotted must be sufficient to meet the objectives. Facilities must be adequate.

What is the requirements of Continuing Education for nursing (2 options)

-20 hours of CE in area of practice -Achievement, maintenance, or renewal of approved national nursing certification in the nurse's area of practice There are no longer two types (all must meet the 9 requirements seen below)

-ANA -AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses -American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) -American Association off -Emergency Nurses Association (ENA)

When will new nurses be affected by CNE?

-During first full renewal period -Initial licensure period may be from 6-29 months (then full renewal period begins)

Mandated areas of CEs for each renewal cycle

-Hep C (2 hours) -Bioterrorism (2 hours)

Unacceptable CNE activities

-Programs less than 60 min -Refresher courses designed to update basic knowledge -Orientation programs designed to introduce employees to a specific work setting -Courses which focus on self-improvement, changes in attitude, self-awareness, weight loss and yoga -Self directed study -Continuing Medical Education

If CNE requirements are not met what happens?

-Their licenses may be put into inactive status -Must complete CNE to become active again -Depending on time frame may have to complete a refresher course

-Working with clients with dementia

Acceptable CNE activities

-Workshops -Seminars -Home study programs, i.e.. journal articles approved for CE (may get all 20 this way) -College course related to academic degree in nursing and taken for academic credit and passed (1 semester hour = 15 contact hours)

Time frame CEs must be done r/t renewal

-must be earned between the first day following the month of the prior renewal and the last day of the subsequent renewal
