Diamond Facial Shape

Horizontal Lines

Are Parallel to the Horizon, Add Width, Open a Narrow Face and Add Weight or Bulk When Cut Into a Shape.

Vertical Lines

Are at a Right Angle to Horizon, Add the Illusion of Length, Make a Wide Face Look Narrower and Remove Bulk When Used in Haircutting.

Angles

Are formed at the pint where two lines meet.

Tall and Lanky

Are people that have overall elongated and narrow bone structure. Neither their hips nor their shoulders are dominant. They have long legs and arms and an unusually long neck. Women 5'10" or taller Men 6'1" or taller.

Line

Consists of a sea rise of points that are connected with each other in a variety of directions.

Classic Clothing Style

Coordinated in their wardrobe. Classic colors, such as navy, black, white, cream, beige, brown and gray. Well-styled hair, good condition and an appropriate shade of color.

Personality

Defined as the outward reflection of inner, thoughts, feelings, values and attitudes.

Line

Established direction that lead the eye through a hairstyle and create visual illusion. Can be identified along the perimeter of a hairstyle as well as within the style itself. Created by cutting, styling or chemical texturizing techniques.

Growth Pattern

Every client has certain growth patterns in the hair. The natural growth pattern determines the angle and direction at which the hair grows out of the scalp.

Casual Clothing Style

Everything should be comfortable and/or low maintenance. Wardrobe often includes flat and comfortable shoes and sneakers. Wear a lot of blue jeans, T-shirts and sweatshirts. Easy hair styles.

Convex Profile

Has a strong curvature resulting from either a protruding nose or a sloping forehead or chin.

Concave Profile

Has an inward curve, which is most often the result of a dominant, protruding forehead and chin or a small nose.

Straight Profile

Has very slight outward curvature from the front hairline to the tip of the nose and from the tip of the nose to the chin. Considered to be the ideal and can be totally exposed.

Short and Sturdy

Have a heavy or robust bone structure. They often have wide shoulders and hips and short arms, legs and necks. Women are 5'4" or shorter and Men are 5'7" or shorter.

Activated Texture

Having a rough surface.

Unactivated Texture

Having a smooth and unbroken surface.

Profile

Is an outline of an object form the side, especially the side view of the face and head.

Symmetrical Balance

Is created when weight is positioned equally on both sides of a center axis, creating a mirror image.

Asymmetrical Balance

Is created when weight is positioned unequally from a center axis.

Heart Facial Shape

Is long and angular. The chin area is sometimes elongated and pointed while the forehead is wider. Volume at the jawline and little or no volume on top is often recommended. Add Volume At Jawline!

Pear Facial Shape

Is most often elongated, with a narrowness at the temple and a wide jaw. Can wear graduated forms very well since these designs can push the volume up and above the jawline into the narrower areas. Add Volume Above Jawline!

Communication

Is often mistakenly considered what is said in words only. However, it involves actions, gestures, tone of voice and speed.

Oval Facial Shape

Is round, long and narrow rather than wide and short. Look very harmonious because they approximate even three-sectioning. Many Choices!

Square Facial Shape

Is short and wide. Looks angular with straight lines. The front hairline and jawline are almost horizontal with cheekbones that protrude very little on the sides. Avoid Straight Lines!

Shape

Is the 2 dimensional representation of points, lines and angles.

Texture

Is the visual appearance or fell of a surface, and it's the design element that creates interest within a design. Identifies the surface appearance of the hair, whether it is curly or straight, smooth or layered. Created through a cut, perm, style and relaxer.

Color

Is the visual perception of the reflecting of light. The most powerful design element.

Short Neck

Keep hair close or off face.

Diagonal Lines

Lead the Eye to a Face Area, Allow Movement when used in Haircutting, Diagonal-Forward Lines Move Toward the Face and Diagonal-Back Lines Move Away From the Face.

Small Figure

Less hair.

Limited Facial Expressions, Hesitant to Make Eye Contact, Controlled Voice, No High or Lows, Wait for Other to Talk First, Wait to Introduction; Formal, Arms Folded Across Chest, Seems to be Observant, Take Time, Moves Slowly and Soft Handshake.

Oblong Facial Shape

Long, narrow and angular. The jawline is wide and almost horizontal. The hairline is slightly curved. Sides sometimes look vertical since the cheekbones barely protrude. Add Softness!

Round Facial Shape

Looks circular and tends to look short and wide rather than long and narrow. Fen have a low, round hairline and a short chin with a rounded jawline. Avoid Width!

Romantic Clothing Style

Love silk, flower prints, lace, beads, pastel shades of color. Soft and feminine hairstyles, curls and soft hair colors.

Warm Colors

Make you Feel Warm, Attract the Eye and Are Cheerful and Exuberant.

More hair.

Average

People with normal height, dominant shoulders and average hips. Their bodies usually have a good proportion. Women 5'5" to 5'9" and Men 5'7" to 6'1"

Playful and very feminine. Very fashion-oriented and enjoy wearing the latest looks. Shoe hair and sides parts.

Hair Texture

Refers to the surface appearance or feel of the hair as well as the diameter of the hair strand itself. Can be described as either unactivated or activated.

Cool Colors

Remind you of Ice or Coldness, Are Distant, Quiet and Can Seem Gloomy.

Light Colors

Soften the Face, Seem to Come Forward and Add Brightness.

Curved Lines

Softer than Straight Lines, Soften Angular Faces, Distract From Hard Features, Allow Blending when used in Haircutting, Create the Illusion of Movement and Moving in Opposite Direction, Create Wave Patterns.

Balance

State of equilibrium existing between contrasting, opposite or interacting elements. Can be symmetrical or asymmetrical.
