Cytoplasm, and cytoskeleton
Cytoplasmic inclusions
Aggregates of chemicals such as lipid droplets, melanin.
Microfilaments
Aka actin filaments. Structure, support for microvilli, contracility, movement.
Microtubules
Are hollow, and made of tubulin. Are internal scaffold, transport, cell division.
Cytoplasm
Cellular material outside the nucleus but inside the plasma membrane. It is composed of the cytosol, cytoskeleton, cytoplasmic inclusions, and organelles.
Intermediate filaments
Provides mechanical strength to cells.
Cytoskeleton
Supports the cell and holds the nucleus, and other organelles in place. It must allow for movements of cilia. Consists of three groups of proteins: the microtubles, actin filaments, and intermediate filaments.
Cytosol
The fluid portion. Dissolved molecules (ions in water) and colloid (proteins in water)
