Divisible by rule of 2

Even numbers - numbers with 0,2,4,6 or 8 in the ones place - are divisible by 2. Ex. 976 is an even number. 976 is divisible by 2.

0.06 divided into 2.4. 0.06 before the division bracket.

Sometimes zeros must be written in the dividend when the decimal points are being moved. Now it is possible to divide. Divide 24 by 6: write 4 in the quotient. Multiply. 4 x6 = 24 Next, write a zero in the quotient as a place holder, because 0 divided by 6 = 0 The quotient is 40 So, 2.4 divided by 0.06 + 40

1,440 / 6 = 240

In this division problem 1,440 is the dividend. The dividend is the number that is being divided. 6 is the divisor. The divisor is the number by which the dividend is divided. 240 is the quotient. The quotient is the answer. If a division problem is written horizontally, rewrite it as 6 divided by 1,440 the answer will appear on top after you long divide. Or a.b.c. a inside, b before a and c on top.

When a number is divisible by another and it can be evenly divided with no remainder. This is how you find the factor of a number and how it is divisible. To find the GCF, you will...

(Greatest Common Factor) List the pairs that have that number as their product. Start with 1 x the number. Then try 2 x , 3 x. & so on. When you get to a pair already listed, you can stop.

What are 5 steps that can help you solve word problems?

1. Read the Problem. 2. Find the information needed. 3. Plan a solution. 4. Solve the problem. 5. Check the answer.

Percents and fractions.

65% is very close to 2/3 .0125 is 1/8 .333 or 33 1/3% is 1/3

Sometimes, a division problem may contain a whole number and a mixed number. Start by writing both of them as improper fractions. Then write the problem as multiplication using the reciprocal of the divisor. Multiply and write the answer in lowest terms.

9 divided by 1 1/2 =? 9 divided by 1 1/2 = 9/1 divided by 3/2= 9/1 x 2/3 = 18/3 = 6

Divisible by rule of 3

Add the digits. If the sum is divisible by 3, the number is divisible by 3. Ex 402 - 4+0+2=6 6 is divisible by 3 so 402 is divisible by 3.

1.4 divided by 3.64 - move over one.

Before dividing, moving the decimal point to make the divisor a whole number. Then move the decimal point in the dividend the same number of places. Always place the decimal point in the quotient above the newly placed decimal point in the quotient before dividing.

When it asks: How could you determine the average distance between the cities on a map mileage chart, you would...

First add the distances for each trip. Then divide by the total number of trips.

Divisible by rule of 10

If the number has 0 in the ones place, it is divisible by 10. Ex. 2,380 has 0 in the ones place. 2,380 is divisible by 10.

Divisible by rule of 5

If the number has 0 or 5 in the ones place, it is divisible by 5. Ex.80 has a 0 in the ones place. 345 has 5 in the ones place. Both 80 & 345 are divisible by 5.

Divisible by rule of 6

If the number is even and it is divisible by 3, it is divisible by 6. Ex. 72 is an even number. 7+2=9, and 9 is divisible by 3, so 72 is divisible by 6.

Divisible by rule of 9

If the sum of the digits is a multiple of 9, the number is divisible by 9. Ex. 24,534 --> 2+4+5+3+4 = 18. 18 is a multiple of 9 so 24,534 is divisible by 9.

To divide 0.0336 by 5.6 the 5.6 goes before the bracket.

Move the decimal point in the divisor one place to the right. Move the decimal point in the dividend one place to the right. Place the decimal point in the quotient above the newly placed decimal point in the dividend. Sometimes you have to write zeros in the quotient as place holders. This is necessary when the number you are dividing is less than the divisor. Because 56 does not go into 0,3, or 33 in this problem, write zeros in the quotient above these digits. Divide 336 by 56 and place the 6 in the quotient. Multiply. 6x 56 = 336 Subtract. The remainder is zero. The quotient is 0.006 So, 0.0336 / 5.6 = 0.006

0.64 divided into 0.032 - 64 being the first number before the bracket.

Sometimes you need to write additional zeros to the right in the dividend to complete the division. Begin as always by moving the decimal point in the divisor and the dividend. Place the decimal point in the quoitient directly above the newly placed decimal point in the dividend. Because 64 does not go into 3 or 32, write zeros above those digits in the quotient. Write a zero to the right in the dividend so division is possible. Now divide 320 by 64. Write 5 in the quotient. Multiply. 5 x 64 = 320 Subtract. The remainder is zero. The quotient is 0.05. So, 0.032 / 0.64 = 0.05

Divisible by rule of 8

The last 3 digits of the # are divisible by 8, the number is divisible by 8. The last 3 digits of 65,448 are 448. 448 is divisible by 8, so 65,448 is divisible by 8.

Divisible by rule of 4

The last two digits of 712 are 12. 12 is divisible by 4. 712 is divisible by 4.

7.2 / 0.8 = or 7.2 divided by 0.8 the divisor 8 goes first before the division bracket.

To divide by a decimal, rewrite the porblem so that the divisor is a whole number. To do this, move the decimal point to make the divisor a whole number. Then move the decimal point in the dividend the same number of places.
