How to Create Mood

Imagery

Good writers pull readers into the world of a story by using vivid language that appeals to the five senses: The wood bat slipped in Emily's sweaty palms as she stepped up to home plate, the sun glaring down on her like a harsh spotlight. The mood intense because it's suspenseful and nobody heart beats out of there chest in an intense situation.

The Setting

Setting is the time, place, and social context in which a story takes place. Setting can have a great effect on plot and character, and it can contribute to mood and atmosphere.

How does Word Choice effect Mood?

The blood-thirsty lion stocked the savanna, hungrily eyeing the helpless creatures around him. The mood is nervous, anxious , afraid because intense word. The majestic lion roamed the savanna, proudly gazing at the creatures around him. The mood is Happy, Confident. happy because words like majestic proudly are more positive so i feel it it's going to be a good situation

Mood

The mood is the climate of feeling in a literary work. Mood = how does the story make YOU feel? Sad, lonely, scared, joyful, nervous, happy The choice of setting, objects, details, images, and words all contribute towards creating a specific mood. The mood shifts and changes from scene to scene to mirror the emotional mood of the point of view of the character in that scene .

What is the mood of the following settings? The night it happened was one we will never forget. The wind was screeching outside as rain pounded against the window. We had lost electricity hours ago and had only one candle to light the house. Gradually that candle burned out until we were left in the pitch black. CRACK! Lightning lit up the yard splitting a tree in two.

It was as though they had never seen these things before, and even now they could hardly believe that it was all their own.
