HOW LOND DOES THE ATP-PC SYSTEM LAST FOR?

0-10 seconds

HOW LOND DOES THE LACTIC ACID SYSTEM LAST FOR?

15-60 seconds

HOW MANY MOLECULES OF ATP DOES THE ANEROBIC SYSTEM MAKE?

2 molecules

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME FOR THE ATP-PC SYSTEM

3-5 mins to fully restore

HOW MANY MOLECULES OF ATP DOES THE AEROBIC SYSTEM MAKE?

38 ATP molecules

WHAT IS THE ATP-PC SYSTEM?

ATP-PC system consists of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and phosphocreatine (PC).

WHAT IS ATP?

Adenosine triposhphate

WHERE IS FATS STORED?

Blood stream

WHAT ARE CARBOHYDRATES?

Carbohydrates are sugars that break down inside the body to create glucose. Glucose is moved around the body in the blood and is the primary source of energy for the brain, muscles, and other essential cells.

EXAMPLE OF THE ATP-PC SYSTEM?

Examples of this energy system in sport are the 100M sprint or weight lifting.

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF FATIGUE

Fatigue is defined as a failure to maintain the required or expected force.

WHERE IS ATP STORED?

In muscle fibre

VO2 MAX

Increasing oxygen uptake and reaching a new steady state.

HOW MANY MOLECULES OF ATP IS PRODUCED FROM FATS? - AEROBICALLY

It produces 34 molecules of ATP for every molecule of glucose that is used.

WHERE IS AMINO ACIDS STORED?

Liver

WHAT IS THE EFFORT LEVEL FOR THE ATP-PC SYSTEM ?

Maximal effort

WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF RECOVERY

Often after an injury or surgery, your sensitivity to pain and inflammation of joints or muscles is increased, while range of motion and weight bearing ability is limited, restricting your ability to perform activities on land

WHAT ARE PROTEIN?

Only minimally contributes to energy production when the body has severely depleted its fat and glycogen stores. Protein is a macronutrient that is essential to building muscle mass.

WHAT IS PC?

Phosphocreatine

WHERE IS PROTEIN STORED?

Protein get stored as fat.

WHAT ARE FATS?

Provide the majority of energy for long term physical activity and at rest

WHAT DOES ATP DO?

Provides the energy that allows a muscle to contract.

WHERE IS CARBOHYDRATES STORED?

Stored in liver and muscle cells

WHERE IS GLYCOGEN STORED?

Stored in liver and muscle cells

WHERE IS PC STORED?

Stored in the muscles, where it is used for energy.

WHAT IS THE EFFORT FOR THE LACTIC ACID SYSTEM?

Sub-maximal efforts

WHEN IS THE LACTIC ACID SYSTEM USED?

The cause of fatigue in the lactic acid system is the build up of pyruvic acid in the muscle.

WHAT DOES THE ATP-PC DO?

The energy system provides immediate energy through the breakdown of these stored high energy phosphates. If this energy system is 'fully stocked' it will provide energy for maximal intensity, short duration exercise for between 10-15 seconds before it fatigues.

EXAMPLE OF THE LACTIC ACID SYSTEM

The lactic acid energy system is the dominant system in sports, which require a high intensity for longer than 10 seconds. Sports such as 200m or 400m run, or 50m and 100m swim are highly reliant on the lactic acid system. Other times when it is used would include repeated high intensity activities during other sports such as tennis running back and forth with small breaks in-between, repeated tackles in rugby or an extended piece of high intensity in any other sport such as a full-back going forward in an attack and then having to retreat in soccer.

WHAT IS THE LACTIC ACID SYSTEM?

The lactic acid system is an anaerobic energy system in which the high-energy compound adenosintriphosphate (ATP) is manufactured from the breakdown of glucose to pyruvic acid in the muscle cells.

WHERE IS FREE FATTY ACIDS STORED?

They are stored as triglycerides

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME FOR THE LACTIC ACID SYSTEM?

This process can take anywhere between 30 and 60 min.

WHERE IS TRIGLYCERIDES STORED?

Triglycerides are stored fats your body can use as energy.
