Optic nerve

(Cranial nerve 2). Leaves the back of the eye and goes to the occipital lobe of the brain.

Iris

Circular, pigmented ring of muscle tissue behind the cornea; the center of the iris is perforated by the pupil.

Cornea

Clear continuation of the sclera —> called the window of the eye.

Retina

Innermost layer of the eyeball; contains rods and cones and continues posteriorly with the optic nerve.

Posterior chamber

Located behind a part; towards the back. Space between Iris, lens, and ciliary body of the eye, filled with aqueous humor.

Choroid

Middle layer of the eyeball that contains a dark pigment to prevent the scattering of incoming light rays.

Anterior chamber

Positioned towards the front. Space between cornea and Iris filled with aqueous humor.

Vitreous humor

The jelly-like fluid found in the eye, posterior to the lens.

Pupil

The opening in the center of the iris that regulates the amount of light entering the eye.

Lens

The refracting mechanism of the eye that is located directly behind the pupil.

Aqueous humor

Watery fluid that fills the anterior chamber of the eye, in front of the lens.

Sclera

White outer coat of the eyeball.
