Commutative Property

Definition: a mathematical property that states that you can change the order of numbers in an addition or multiplication equation Example: 8x7=7x8 3x8=8x3

Distributive Property

Definition: a multiplication property that states that you can break a factor into its parts before multiplying Example: 379,241 x 3 = ? 300,000 x 3 70,000 x 3 9,000 x 3 200 x 3 40 x 3 1 x 3

Associative Property

Definition: a multiplication property that states that you can change the grouping of the factors to make a problem easier to solve Example: associative property is when you group factors in drfferent ways and still get the same answer

Prime Number

Definition: a whole number other than 0 or 1 that is not divisible without remainder by any other whole numbers except 1 and itself Example: 31 is a prime number because you cant divide it by anything other than 1

Composite Number

Definition: a whole number that can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 or itself Example: 21 is a composite number because it can be divided by 7,3,1 and 21 not just 1 and 21.

Factor

Definition: any of the numbers or symbols in mathematics that when multiplied together form a product Example: 7x9=63 7 and 9 are factores of 63 , 63 is 7 and 9s

Equivalent Fraction

Definition: fractions that take up the same amount of space Example: My answer is 8/10=80/10 because if you multiply 8 by ten you will get 80 and if you multiply 10 by 10 you will get 100

Difference

Definition: the number left after subtracting Example: 18-12=6 Difference:6

Product

Definition: the number resulting from the multiplication of two or more numbers Example: 3 x 12 = 36 36 is the product

Sum

Definition: the result of adding numbers Example: 5,657+4,445=10,102 10,102 is the sum
