Function and Function Notation Vocabulary
Relation
A relation is a set of ordered pairs.
Function
A function is a special relation that has a rule that establishes a mathematical relationship between two quantities, called the input and the output. For each input, there is exactly one output
Function Notation
A function is a way to name a function that is defined by an equation. In function notation, the y in the equation is replaced with f(x)
Arithmetic Sequence
A sequence which has a constant difference between its terms.
Explicit Formula
Explicit Formula is a formula that allows direct computation of any term for a sequence.
Recursive Formula
Recursive Formula is a formula that requires the computation of all previous terms in order to find the value of a numbered term.
Sequence
Sequence is a list of numbers set apart by commas.
Dependent Variable
The dependent variable is the variable in a relation with a value that depends on the value of the independent variable (input).
Domain
The domain is the collection of all input values.
Independent Variable
The independent variable is the variable in a function with a value that is subject to choice.
Range
The range is the collection of all output values.
