Hindu Kush

This is a mountain range in Afghanistan that divides the valleys of the Amu Darya and Indus Rivers. Its highest peak is Noshaq, and the capital of Kabul is located in a valley of these mountains.

Wakhan Corridor

This is a narrow strip of land in between Pakistan and Tajikistan. It is a high, rugged valley between the Pamir and Hindu Kush mountains, and is home to the source of the Amu Darya.

Khyber Pass

This is a pass on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the eastern part of the country. A strategic military region, it been an important route from Pakistan for resupplying troops stationed in Afghanistan since fighting started there.

Amu Darya

This is a river in Central Asia that creates the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, then between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, and finally between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan before flowing through other countries and reaching the Aral Sea.

Kabul

This is the capital and largest city in Afghanistan, located in the eastern part of the country. It was decimated by the Taliban and many of its citizens left, but now it is slowly rebuilding.

This is the currency of Afghanistan.

Noshaq

This is the highest point in Afghanistan, at 24,580 feet. It is located on the border with Pakistan, in the Wakhan Corridor section of the Hindu Kush.

Helmand River

This is the longest river in Afghanistan, flowing from its source in central Afghanistan into the Sistan basin on the border between Afghanistan and Iran.
