Gestalt Principles of form Perception
What are the 6 Gestalt principles of form perception?
1. Figure-Ground 2. Similarity 3. Proximity 4. Symmetry 5. Continuity 6. Closure
What is the similarity principle?
If objects have similar characteristics they are perceived as a unit.
What is the symmetry principle?
If you draw a line down the center of an image and the left side is a direct copy of the right side, then you have a mirror image and that reflects symmetry.
What is the proximity principle?
Objects that are close together in space or time are usually perceived as belonging together.
What is the continuity principle?
Perceive figures or objects as belonging together if they appear to form a continuous pattern.
What is figure-ground principle?
You take a view of the world some objects seem to stand our, while others fade into the background.
What is the closure principle?
We perceive figures with gaps in them to be complete even though parts of the figure are missing.
