What is meant by "mission critical"?

An element or process that is absolute necessary for a business or organization to succeed.

In verses 14-15, Paul continues to talk about his motivation by describing how he is "compelled" to serve Christ. One can be compelled by duty and obligation, or as Paul says, by love. Show that you understand the difference by matching the examples below with the true motive each reveals. Rayna visits her ailing grandfather weekly to clean his house and wash his clothes. She is thankful for all the good times they had together since she was a little girl. Justin enlisted in the Army because the judge gave him a choice: either join the military of go to jail for his offense. Keira is saving every dollar she can to go on a mission trip to West Africa this summer. She feels it is the least she can do since seeing both her mom and dad come to Christ this last year. Mitch has shared his faith with five people so far this week. One more opportunity and he will meet the requirements to become an elder and supervise others to do this work.

Answer 1: love Answer 2: obligation Answer 3: love Answer 4: obligation

In verses 9-11, Paul talks about being propelled or motivated to live for Christ. He has as his ambition to please the Lord and persuade others to do the same. He knows that everyone will one day have to stand before Christ and give account of themselves, which is serious business. It is important to understand what Paul means by "the fear of the Lord." It can be "dread of punishment," but it also can mean "reverence and respect." Decide which is which with the examples below: Barry is fearfully shopping for the very best engagement ring he can buy. This week he proposes to Janice. After running the stop sign, Chuck sees the flashing blue lights in his mirror and fearfully pulls over. John fearfully writes his term paper on the subject of absolute truth because this may be his last chance to witness to his professor. Elisa is seeking to be baptized because she is fearful of losing her salvation. As someone who knows the heart of God for people, Paul fearfully seeks to persuade others to turn to Christ.

James 3:1-2 A disciple-maker must constantly be ready to preach and teach the Word with others.2 Timothy 4:2 Disciple-makers seek to equip the saints for service and build them up toward maturity in the unity and knowledge of Christ. Disciple-making is not limited to a mission trip or special activity at church. "Go therefore" Disciple-making is not limited to people we know or people like us. "all nations" Jesus is looking for true followers, not fans. "make disciples" Disciple-making means leading believers to identify publicly with Jesus and the church. "baptizing them" Disciple-making means leading new believers to be obedient to Jesus. "teaching them"

How does the Bible relate to Jesus Christ?

He is the true subject of the Bible.

Why did Billy Graham start the Lausanne Movement?

He saw the need for Christians across the world to unify and work together in missions.

It is vital to consider your life choices in light of God's mission and what it means to live as a Christ-follower in the hear-and-now. As a sort of pre-test for what you will study in a few moments, try to match the biblical belief on the right with the life choice it affects most on the left. You may come back before submitting for grading and change your answers if you need to.

How you spend your time and money: God holds us accountable for our stewardship to his resources. How you treat people: God cares for everyone and wants as many to be saved as can be. Whether or not you share your faith in Christ: People must face the judgment of God. Whether you live selfishly or sacrificially for God: We will inherit the universe and can look forward to a rich and amazing life in eternity. Whether you grow in holiness or sinfulness: We are to prepare for God to live with us forever Whether you live by convictions or just react to circumstances: God is in control and will accomplish all His good plans.

According to John 3:16-21 (Links to an external site.), how should we respond to this statement: "We are innocent until we choose to reject Christ." Give your answer in at least two sentences.

In John 3:18, it clearly states that we need to believe in God, for those who do will not be condemned. If we do not believe in God, we are condemned. In verse 19, it states that there was darkness in the world before the light came, and even when the light came, people preferred the darkness over the light, this meant that we were never innocent, it was only until God had sent His Son then we can be saved.

Using the verses from John 1:1-18, match the verse in John's Gospel to a comparable verse from the Old Testament and Galatians. Old Testament references to use: Isaiah 9:2, 9:6, 53:3-5, 61:1-2; Nehemiah 9:6; Micah 5:2; Malachi 3:1; Galatians 3:26 The Word became a man to live among us. The Word created everything in the universe. The Word experienced the rejection of His people. The Word is described as existing before creation The Word brought grace and truth. The Word was introduced and acknowledged by John the Baptist. The Word is the life and light of men. The Word makes family members of all those who receive Him.

Isaiah 9:6 Nehemiah 9:6 Isaiah 53:3-5 Micah 5:2 Isaiah 61:1-2 Malachi 3:1 Isaiah 9:2 Galatians 3:26

Why is the Bible sometimes called "the Grand Narrative of Scripture"?

It is a series of God-stories across time and cultures.

Look at the list below and check any that are not consistent with a proper understanding of evangelism and conversion.

It is our job to make people feel sorry for their sins. Pray this prayer and ask Jesus to come into your heart. You can be a witness for Christ through your actions and example only. Come to Jesus and let Him be your friend and helper. For a person to become a Christian, he must attend church, read the Bible, and pray.

From the discussion in the study, how would you answer a person who insists that all religions are equal and basically lead to God? Write at least a paragraph of three sentences and include at least two points to counter this claim.

It is stated in John 17:3, that God is the only true God, and in Luke 4:8 that we are to only worship God, the only one that we should serve. God told a parable, in Matthew 6:24, and Luke 16:13, that no one can serve two masters, as they will love one master and hate the other. This proves that we can't have multiple religions in our lives. God is not a God who can be combined or mixed with other religions. It is states several times in scripture that God is the only true God, and that there are many false gods. It also states that the only to God is through believing in Him, no other way can lead to God.

What does belief in Jesus accomplish for people?

It spares them from God's judgment.

Using the scripture in John 1:1-18, match the following statements to the corresponding verse. The Word became a man to live among us. The Word created everything in the universe. The Word experienced the rejection of His people. The Word is described as existing before creation The Word brought grace and truth. The Word was introduced and acknowledged by John the Baptist. The Word is the life and light of men. The Word makes family members of all those who receive Him.

Read this case study and identify what is missing in the evangelistic presentation: Pattie was excited to have this moment with her new friend, Sofie. Sofie had some questions about God and invited Pattie to eat lunch with her. Pattie first shared about the One True God who created everything and made us in His image. She talked about how God loves us and wants us to know Him. Then she told the story of the first sin and how "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). She pointed out several examples of how sin has broken our relationship with God and brought evil into the world. She introduced Jesus as God's Son—all God and all man—who came into the world to deliver us from sin and death by taking our punishment on Himself and dying on a cross. Finally, she wrapped up with the truth that God can forgive us and restore us to Himself if we will turn from our sins and trust in Jesus. When lunch was over, Sofie thanked Pattie for the presentation and headed to work. What did Pattie miss?

Patti did not lead Sophie to consider a decision.

In His great love, God can remove our transgressions as far as the east is from the west. Christ is always able to save us because He can intercede for us forever.

Ponder this quote from J. D. Greear: "For many evangelicals the gospel has functioned solely as the entry rite into Christianity; it is the prayer we pray to begin our relationship with Jesus; the diving board off of which we jump into the pool of Christianity. After we get into the pool, we get into the real stuff of Christianity.... The gospel, however, is not just the diving board off of which we jump into the pool of Christianity; it is the pool itself. It is not only the way we begin in Christ; it is the way we grow in Christ."1 What is wrong with thinking of the gospel as only a "diving board" and not the "pool?" 1J. D. Greear, Gospel: Recovering the Power that Makes Christianity Revolutionary, (Nashville, TN: B & H Publishing, 2010), p. 21.

The gospel is about a continuing relationship with Christ. The gospel should continually inspire us to grow in Christ. The gospel is more than a starting point in your Christian life.

What is the principle given in Puritan preacher David Clarkson's quote, "quo persona in quem peccatur nobilior est, eo peccatum gravius est"?

In your own words, explain why the incarnation is harder to believe than any of the miracles of Jesus, His virgin birth, or His rising from the dead.

There are really no explanation as to why miracles happen, or how they happen. People try to make sense of it by saying that His virgin birth did not actually happen because Mary could've been lying, or when He turned water into wine, people just claimed that it was a magic trick. When He rose Lazarus from the dead, people claim that Lazarus wasn't actually dead and that it was a trick to make people believe in God. When Jesus was crucified, it was in front of a large group of witnesses, they witnessed His death, and it was by custom that the Roman soldiers had to make sure that those crucified had to be dead when taken down. So when He had risen from the dead, there were no explanation for it. Thus, making it harder to believe in the incarnation than any of the miracles of Jesus. Maybe its a part of human nature, in the Bible, when the Israelites were wandering in the desert for 40 years. It was because they had turned away from God, despite the countless times of miracles he had done for them? Why did they still turn away even when experiencing first hand of his miracles.

Investigate this idea of a white funeral by reading Colossians 3:1-10 and completing the following exercises. A funeral means death, and Paul unapologetically says, "you have died and your life is hidden with Christ" (verse 3). Somehow a believer has died but is yet alive. What is the best statement below to explain this?

We are dead in regards to a life controlled by sin, but alive in regards to a life controlled by Christ.

Match the statements about the vine and branches with their corresponding point about discipleship. The branch is completely dependent on the vine. Fruitful branches are pruned to become more fruitful. Unfruitful or dead branches dry up and are trimmed away. We need to be connected to Jesus to live as his disciples Jesus' words prune away the old life so we can our new life can flourish. Those who do not stay connected to Christ wither apart from Christ. We need to remain in Christ in order to bear fruit. Disciples who stay connected to Christ bears the fruit of a godly life Disciples that bear fruit glorify God and prove that they are real disciples

The scholarship analogy with God's grace has limitations. Which of these statements would be a false application to the gospel?

You must perform well or you could lose your salvation. Only a few people are eligible for the offer of salvation.

Look up these passages in the Old Testament and match them to the descriptions of God's love. God rejoices over you with songs or shouts. God never forgets you and even has engraved you on His hands. God knows everything about you. God will love you forever. God is your shelter and strength, always ready to help. God has endured the penalties that should have been yours. God disciplines you because He cares for you. God wants for you to turn from wicked ways and truly live.
