Total Fertility Rate
The number of children born to an average woman in a population during her entire reproductive life
Crude death rate
The number of deather per thousand in a population in a given year.
Crude Birthrate
The number of live births per thaound in a population in a given year.
Growth Rate
The rate of growth of a population, as a percentage. Multipied by the exisiting population, this rate gives the net yearly increase for the population.
epidemilogic transition
The shift from high death rates to low death rates in a population as a result of modern medical and sanitary developments.
Demographic Transition
The tendency of a population to shift from high birth and death rates to low bith and death rates as a result of the epidemiologic and fertility transitions. The result is a population that grows very slowly, if at all.
Doubling time
The time it takes for a population increasing at a given growth rate to double in size.

a bar graph plotting numbers of males ad females for succesive ages in the population, starting with the youngest at the bottom.
Replacment-level fertility
a fertility rate that will just replace a woman and her parnter, theroretically 2.0, but adjusted slightly higher becasue of mortaility and failure to reproduce.
