A gradual change from child to adult

What is autonomy? How might it lead to conflicts with family members during adolescence?

Autonomy is independence. This could lead to conflict because parents may expect their teens to stick to older ways and teens may be pulled in other directions by their peers.

20-2 Vocab Autonomy

Independence

List one example each of increasing responsibilities that teens may have to their family, their friends, and their community.

One example to family is helping out such as going grocery shopping. A responsibility to friends is helping them if they are endangering themselves by doing drugs. And an example to the community is cleaning streets and parks.

What is reproductive maturity? How is it related to puberty?

Reproductive maturity is the ability to produce children. This has to do with puberty because it has to do with the production of sex hormones and in girls, the menstrual cycle.

What are secondary sex characteristics? List two for males and two for females.

Secondary sex characteristics are physical changes that develop during puberty, but not directly involved in reproduction. Two for girls are the development of the breasts and the widening of the hips. In men, it is that the shoulders broaden and hair appears on the face and chest.

The responsibilities adolescents have to themselves are making everyday decisions, resisting negative influences, and thinking about your future.

How do teens develop emotionally during adolescence? Give three examples of questions teens may ask themselves.

They develop emotionally by defining meaning in their lives, a set of personal values, and a sense of self. Three questions are "Are my friends true friends?" "Is my parents' belief really okay?" "Who am I?"
