Historical significance of the Hainan Islands

An EP-3 crashed in the water near the Hainan Islands after 2 Chinese J-8's flew too close and forced it down. During the descent, the crew tried to destroy sensitive items on the board such as electronic equipment related to intelligence gathering, documents and data. However, they were not properly trained in the procedures to destroy the information so they improvised pouring coffee into the motherboards. On the ground, the aircraft was stripped and searched by the PLA and the crew was not completely successful in the elimination of evidence, cryptographic keys, signals intelligence manuals, and names of National Security Agency employees were confiscated.

Historical significance of the USS Liberty

June 8, 1967 USS Liberty was a technical research ship that was attacked by Israeli Air Force and Israeli Navy during the Six-Day War. The attack killed 34 crew members and 31 were CT's. Israel later apologized for the attack saying that it was an error and had confusion about the ship's identity. However, the survivors said that the ship was clearly marked as US and even put up a fresh American flag, concluding that this was a deliberate attack.

Historical significance of the USS Pueblo

On January 23, 1968 The USS Pueblo was a light cargo ship that was reconstructed into an intel-gathering vessel. She was ordered to intercept and conduct surveillance of the Soviet Navy and gather signal and electronic intelligence from North Korea. However, the ship was boarded and the crew (included CT's) was captured. They were tortured and used as propaganda. (information can be found online)

Understand how high your nametag / ribbons are supposed to rest.

The bottom of male nametags / ribbons should rest 1/4" above the overblouse pockets. On female coats or shirts without pockets, ribbons will be placed on the wearer's left side with the lower row of ribbons placed approximately 6 1/4 inches down as measured from the shoulder seam and centered over the front seam. Female nametags should align with the Ribbons.

They were the first group of radio operators from which the CTI rating grew from and were called this because Sailors and Marines worked on the roof of the Navy department from 1928-1941. They were Cryptologists and Radiomen.

When you graduate from A-school

Ensure that you NSU Collar devices are set properly.

You should hold a ruler up to the collar until the edges are two inches apart. The exact center of your collar device should line up with that point. The corners of your collar device should be perfectly in line with the corner of your collar.
