Layers of the atmosphere
Mesosphere
3rd layer of the atmosphere. Meteors, or "shooting stars," burn up at this layer. This layer extands from 50 km to 90 km. This is the hardest layer to study since planes cannot fly high enough and satellites cannot fly low enough. This is the coldest layer of the atmosphere.
Thermosphere
4th layer of the atmosphere. Shimmering curtains of light, called auroras, happen here. This layer extands from 90 km to 300 km. This is the layer hottest layer of the atmosphere. The space shuttle orbits at this layer.
Statosphere
Above troposphere, top is warmer, pollutants stay there. Jets cruise near the bottom of this layer. This layer expands from 16 km to 50 km. Weather balloons are the flown to this layer. The ozone layer is located here.
Troposphere
The lowest layer of Earth's atmosphere. All weather happens at this layer. This layer extends from 0km to 16 km. Air pressure at this layer. This layer contains 99% of the earths Water vapor
Exosphere
The outer layer of the thermosphere. Many satellites orbit at this layer. This layer extands from 300 km to 600 km. It is sometimes considered part of outer space. Air pressure is the lowest at this layer.
