-fundamental behaviour and cognition -theoretical research -cognition, emotion, motivation, personality, learning, etc.

What is the foundation of applied research?

Basic research

What can basic research inquiries lead to?

New types of therapy for treating sociopaths and psychopaths; effective anti-bullying programs; (i.e. applied research)

What often occurs with basic research?

Theories often need to be modified to real-life parameters of applied research

What are continuous variables?

Variables not restricted to a simple list of categories -ex. percentage correct on a test

What are discreet variables?

Variables that can be divided into categories -ex. political parties

Very academic
