Central Idea

A statement of the most important point the author is making about the topic of a text that is longer than one paragraph.

Thesis Statement

A statement or sentence that states the purpose of a paper or essay

Topic

A topic is a general subject (such as 'friendship') What the text is about. The topic is not the same as the main idea.

Detail

Details are small facts that tell more about a topic. Supporting details are pecific ideas supporting the main idea of a paragraph or longer text.

Author's controlling point

It is the author's argument. It is what the writer wants the reader to believe. For example, a controlling point is the statement of the most important point the author is making about the topic of a text that is longer than one paragraph.

Topic Sentence

States the main idea of the paragraph it should not be too board or too narrow it's should be interesting to catch the readers attention 1.) Tells the reader what the paragraph is about 2.) Should include the author and the title 3.) Should answer the prompt Topic Sentence Is usually the first sentence. Introduces the main idea. Sometimes introduces the details.

Flow of Ideas

The sequence of the events or ideas that help the reader make sense of the paragraph. Facts or ideas presented in a fluent, seamless, logical, and/or meaningful way without any distractions or interruptions that impede the reader. Good Questions to ask yourself is: What happened in the beginning of the story? What happened in the Middle? What happened in the end?

Placement of Topic Sentences

Topic Sentence Is usually the first sentence. Introduces the main idea. Sometimes introduces the details. Main Idea

What a piece of writing is mainly about the topic around which the entire paragraph is organized. It is the definition for a main idea is important info that tells more about the overall idea of a paragraph/section of a text. It is basically the overall idea of a paragraph; the overall picture.

Types of Supporting Details

details that describe they can give information about how something looks, that is, they describe something details that explain explain how to do something by giving information details that prove a point supporting idea should be evidence based on facts, also consider the source.
