Practice good hygiene

-bath regularly, thoroughly washing all external parts -wear protective equipment(cup) -practice abstinence to avoid sexually transmitted diseases -perform self exams to examine for lumps or signs of cancer(early detection, best protection) -regular checkups yearly; if any abnormalities are found, the patient will be preferred to a urologist(doctor who specializes in care problems of the MRS)

Two functions

1) to produce and sperm 2) to transfer sperm to the female's body during sexual intercourse

Path in which sperm is released

Testis --> Epididymis --> through the bladder --> Vas deferens --> Urethra --> Penis

Foreskin

at birth the tip of the penis is covered by a thin, loose skin called foreskin. Some parents choose circumcision which is the removal of the foreskin, for their make children. In the Jewish this ceremony is called "briss" and performed 8 days after birth. Other removal is done at the hospital, typically done within 48 hours of being born. It is a parental decision to have this procedure preformed

Mature

between the ages of 12-15 the hormones produced in the pituitary gland stimulate the productions of testosterone from the gonads. Once males are physically mature is capable of producing sperm for the rest of his life

Inguinal hernia

its when part of the intestines push through a tear in the abdominal wall; typically is typically from straining or lifting heavy objects

Testicular cancer

most is treatable through surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy Prostate problems or prostate cancer; the gland becomes enlarged as a result of an infection, tumor, or old age

Urethra

passageway through which both semn and urine leave the male body

Scrotum

protects sperm by keeping the testes slightly below normal body temperature. When the body temp rises, muscles attached to the scrotum relax, causing the testicles to be further away from the body. If the body temperature is cold, the muscles in the scrotum tighten, moving the testicles closer to the body for warmth. Tight clothing can interfere with sperm production

Testes

testicles are two small glans that secrete testosterone and produce sperm

Sterility

the inability to reproduce

Sterility

the inability to reproduce(causes are STD's, hormonal imbalances, using steroids or other drugs

Sperm

the make gametes, or reproductive cells. Sperm cannot live in higher than normal body temperatures.

Testosterone

the male sex hormone

Semen

tick fluid containing sperm and other secretions from the male reproductive system

Penis

tube-shaped organ that extends from trunk of the body just above the testes. Composed of spongy tissue that contains many blood vessels.

Epididymis

tubes in each testis join the epididymis, a larger coiled tube where sperm mature and are stored

Vas deferens

tubes that extend from each epididymis to the urethra

Erection

when blood flow increases to the penis, it becomes enlarged and erect, causing an erection(normal body functions that occur more easily and frequently during puberty, thet can happen for no reason at all)

Wet dream

when males start producing sperm, he can experience a nocturnal emission which is an ejaculation that occurs when sperm are released during sleep. This is NORMAL as it is the body's way of relieving the buildup of pressure as sperm are being produced

Ejaculation

when the penis becomes erect, semen can be ejected from the body(a thick fluid containing sperm and other secretions) This occurs at the height of sexual arousal
