Measurements of Matter - Mass, Weight, Volume
How would you find the volume of an irregular solid?
Fill a graduated cylinder up with enough water to cover the object (V1). Then carefully put the object into the graduated cylinder. Read the new volume of the water (V2). Put numbers into formula V = V2 - V1.
What are differences between mass and weight?
Mass does not change based on location, while weight does. Mass measures matter and weight measures the force of gravity. To measure mass we use a balance and weight we use a spring scale. The units for mass are kilograms and the unit for weight is Newtons.
How would you find the volume of a regular solid?
Measure the length, width, and height. Then use the formula v = l x w x h
How would you find the volume of a liquid?
Pour it into a graduated cylinder and look at the bottom of the meniscus.
What is the formula used to measure the volume of a regular solid?
V = length x width x height
