flexible, informal, take on different forms, UDL: multiple mean representation, expression and engagement, tasks should be relevant and specific to students. Anticipation guides help focus attention and learning

A teacher observations and questions (element 2):

informal observations and questions are the most frequently used teacher activities for formal assessment. can be used for individual, large or small group instruction. questions can be modified.

Feedforward

is a term that describes the future oriented aim of the information that the teacher proved in the feedback

formative assessment

it is the monitoring of the students progress during instruction that includes feedback and opportunities to improve. they are designed to help teachers get a picture of the students changing knowledge skill and strategies. Allows teachers to offer tailored feedback to students and to reflect on effectiveness of teaching.

Element 6: Use formative assessment for enhancing instruction

knowledge gained from monitoring students also provides useful information for improving the teachers instruction and being more responsive to student needs. reteach in a different manner, speed up, slow down.

students need to know what they are aiming for when completing an assignment, important to supply them with the LGs and evaluation standards. Write down LGs on board, can include students to design the scoring guide, autonomy and confidentiality should be maintained.

scaffolding

temporary support that allows students to meet a challenge and increase understanding. as the LG is mastered the scaffolding can be removed.

Element 3: provide students with feedback to close any gaps

the kind of feedback that you supply students with is crucial. feedback should enable students so they know what to do next. one of the most powerful influences on student learning is when feedback is designed to help students close the gap between current desired performance. informs, reminds, questions and suggests to the student. no good job or what a mess.
