Priest casket/Slip Panel/Slip Top

A casket opening style in which the cap or lid at the head end of the casket is completely removed from the casket for the purpose of viewing; the remains may be viewed from either side of the casket.

Rental casket

A casket which is used as a temporary receptacle for dead human remains for the purpose of visitation and funeral, with the intention that the remains will be placed in some other suitable container for permanent disposition (often a cardboard rental casket insert), while the casket is intended to be reused for the same purpose.

Urn

A container for cremated remains: a vase with a foot or pedestal.

Cremation container

A container into which a dead human body is placed PRIOR TO the cremation process. This container, along with the body, is then cremated.

Corrugated container

A container, used to hold a dead human body, which is constructed out of a type of cardboard that is made with a series of alternate folds and ridges.

Fail safe liner

A device placed in the bottom of cremation caskets to prevent leakage of body fluids.

Direct cremation

A disposition of human remains by cremation without formal viewing, visitation, or ceremony with the body present.

Ziegler case/aka Metal case

A gasket-sealed container which can be used as an insert into a casket or a separate shipping container.

Pouch

A leak-resistant zippered bag designed to contain a dead human body and body fluids; used mainly for the removal of dead human remains from the place of death; sometimes called a "body bag."

Combination case

A transfer consisting of a particle board box with a cardboard tray and cover to satisfy air shipping regulations. Generally used to transport non-casketed human remains.

Air tray

A transfer container consisting of a wooden tray with a cardboard covering for the casket.

Hermetically sealed

Airtight; impervious to external influence; completely sealed by fusion or soldering.

Removable insert/Rental casket insert

An alternative container which is place inside a rental casket; it is removed and cremated after the service or viewing.

Cremation casket

An environmentally safe casket which is designed for encasing dead human remains for cremation.

Transfer container

An outer enclosure utilized for the protection of casketed remains during transportation.

Alternative container

An unfinished wood box or other non-metal receptacle or enclosure, without ornamentation or a fixed interior lining, designed for the encasement of human remains and which is made of cardboard, pressed-wood, composition material (with or without an outside covering), or pouches of canvas or other material. (FTC Definition)

Unfinished wood box

An unornamented casket made of wood which does not have a fixed interior lining.

Scattering urn

An urn designed and marketed to hold the cremated remains for the usually brief period of time between the cremation and subsequent scattering of the cremated remains.

Combination unit

Any product consisting of a unit or a series of units which are designed or intended to be used together as both a casket and as a permanent burial receptacle. Commonly seen in a polymer or plastic infant casket/vault combination.

Keepsake urn

Small urns, often miniature replicas of a standard-sized urn, into which cremated remains can be placed and divided amongst other family members.

Aron

The common name for a simple Jewish casket; based upon the biblical character Aron, the older brother of Moses

Sundry items

The various, miscellaneous items provided or used to complement the service of a funeral director (e.g. register books, acknowledgement cards, memorial folders/programs, religious paraphernalia, flag case, etc.)
