*API: Application Program Interface* - An API specifies how software components should interact and APIs are used when programming graphical user interface (GUI) components - Twitter had a completely open API when it first started, which meant everyone had access to its data - Allowed people to access their data and functionality to use it on their own developments - API is no longer open today, if you use their product data and are making money from it, you owe them a cut
