Figurative Language

Language that communicates meanings beyond the literal meanings of words. Words are often used to symbolize ideas and concepts they would not otherwise be associated with.

Mood

Mood is the feeling or atmosphere that the author creates for a reader. Think brain, as the mood comes from or stems from the heart.

Textual Evidence

Quotations, summaries, paraphrases, or words from text passages to support a position

Repetition of sounds at the end of words

Mood is

The feelings the author creates in the reader, or how the reader feels. The atmosphere of a text.

Tone

Tone speaker or author's attitude toward the subject. Think brain, as the tone/attitude comes from or stems from the author's brain.

Word choice

Words used to convey the tone and mood.

Imagery

descriptive words and phrases that re-create sensory experiences for the reader; appeals to the one or more of the five sense - sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell - to the help the reader imagine exactly what is being described

Personification

giving human qualities to an animal, object, or idea
