MTH Unit 5
Range
The difference between the highest and lowest value from a set of data.
Median
The middle number in a set of numbers that are listed in numerical order (BE SURE THEY ARE IN ORDER)
Mode
The most common number that appears in your set of data.
What is the median? 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9
(4+5)/2 = 4.5
Which has a mode of 2?
1,2,3,5,6,2,7,2,8,1,9
Find the median: 21, 32, 45, 60, 13, 25
1. 13, 21, 25, 32, 45, 60 2. (32-25)/2 = 3.5 Answer= 28.5
Find the range (2,3,5,7,9,10,12,14,16)

Susanne has a set of data she is using to create a histogram. If the set of numbers below is her data set, then which number in the data set will create the highest peak? 2, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 6, 5, 2, 3, 4, 2, 5, 6, 2
2
Find the mode (1,4,5,4,5,6,7,4,8,9)
4
Find the mean - 2,4,6,8,10
6
What is the median? 1,3,3,6,7,8,9
6
Where is the median of this box plot?
86
When data is normally distributed, approximately what percentage of values are within three standard deviations of the mean?
99.7
Histogram
A graph of vertical bars representing the frequency distribution of a set of data.
Box plot
A graph that displays the highest and lowest quarters of data as whiskers, the middle two quarters of the data as a box, and the median
Line graph
A graph that uses line segments to show changes that occur over time
Regression Line
A straight line that describes how a response variable y changes as an explanatory variable x changes ("Line of best fit") *red line on graph
How to find mean
Add all the numbers together (3 + 11 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 9 + 6 = 47). Then you divide the total sum by the number of scores used (47 / 7 = 6.7)
A professor is studying the number of hours of sleep their students get before a final exam. If the professor wishes to see the median and the quartiles of the data, which graphical display should they use?
Box plot (box and whisker plot)
In an experiment, each member of a population is not replaced after it is picked. Which of the following terms best describes these events?
Dependent
Bar chart
a chart with bars whose lengths are proportional to quantities
standard deviation
a measure of variability that describes an average distance of every score from the mean.
Which of the following should be entered into the blank to make the statement true?To calculate empirical probability, blank.________.
actual results from one or more experiments need to be used
Mean
