The tip of the tongue is wide and touches behind all of the upper teeth. The tongue closes off the exit to the mouth so that the sound has to travel up through the nasal cavity to exit.
/n/
The back of the tongue raises all the way up against the soft pallet. The back of the tongue closes off the exit to the mouth so that the sound exits through the nasal cavity.
