Nero-Collossus/Domus Aurea (Art of RE 4/4)

-extension of the fire of Nero -began at circular end of circus maximus, destroyed most of the ancient republican cities -it had its beginning in that part of the circus which adjoins the Palatine and Caelian hills -Nero at this time was at Antium, the fire devoured the palace, the house, and everything around it. He opened up the Campus Martius and pubilc buildings, own gardens, and raise temporary structures to receive the homeless and destitute. Supplies of food were brought up from Ostia and neighboring towns, price of corn was reduced. -Acts were popular but no effect because a rumor that Nero had appeared on a private stage and sang of the destruction of Troy (comparing present misfortunes with the calamities of antiquity) when the city was in flames. -Nero erected a mansion in which jewels, gold, extravagance, fake fields and lakes were built "fool away an emperor's resources"
