Nervous system and endocrine system
3 types of neurons?
Sensory neurons, motor neurons, interneurons
Stimulus
Any action that causes a response
Response
Action caused by a stimulus
Reflex
Automatic response to a stimulus
3 main parts of the nervous system?
Brain, spinal cord and brain stem
3 parts of brain?
Cerebellum, cerebrum and medulla
Hormones
Chemical substance that regulates (Controls) body functions
What is the job of the nervous system?
Its the captain of your body- controlls all body activties
Cerebrum
Large part of Brain controls senses, memory and thinking ie. Tasting a hamburger, artistic ability
Reflex arc
Message in a reflex
Gland
Organ that makes chemical substances used or released by body
Medulla
Part of brain that controls heartbeat and breathing rate ie. Controls digestion and circulation etc.
Cerebellum
Part of brain- controls balance/ body motion ie. Tying shoes, kicking a ball
Interneurons
Relay impulses between the sensory and motor neurons
Motor neurons
Relay impulses from the brain or spinal cord to muscles and glands throughout the body
Sensory neurons
See the information, sends impulses to spinal cord and the brain
What is the job of the endocrine system
To help control bodily functions
Endocrine gland
a gland that does not have ducts
Pathway of nerve Impulse
impulses travel by tiny burst of electrical power. When outgoing message reaches end of axon, axon releases special chemical called neurotransmitters, Then message jumps the space between neurons called synapse and continue traveling along dendrites of new neurons
