Fimbriae

Fingerlike projection at one end of the fallopian tubes that sweeps up matured egg that leaves the ovary.

Progesterone

One of the hormones produced by the ovaries and maintains the lining of the uterus.

Vagina

a canal that joins the cervix to the outside of the body. It is also known as the birth canal. It is responsible for receiving the sperm.

Uterus

a hollow, pear-shaped organ that is the home of the developing fetus. It where the fertilized egg is implanted. It is connected to the vagina by the cervix.

Clitoris

a small protrusion that is comparable to the penis in males.

Labia Majora

enclose and protect other external reproductive organs and are comparable to the scrotum in males.

Estrogen

hormone produced by the ovaries; promotes female secondary sex characteristics

Labia Minora

lie just inside the labia majora and surround the openings to the vagina and urethra.

Ovaries

small, oval-shaped glands that are located on either side of the uterus. Produces eggs and the hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Endometrium

soft mucous membrane lining of uterus.

Prepuce

the fold of skin covering the clitoris

Fallopian Tubes

tubes which carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus and which provides the place where fertilization occurs
